Most of these observations are either completely or partially true.Corruption has many names, and one of civil society isn’t innocent
either. Professionals and businessmen of various sorts indulge in unscrupulous practices. I recently had a chat with some doctors,
surgeons and owners of nursing homes about the tricks of their trade. Here is what they said

1) 40-60% kickbacks for lab tests. When a doctor (whether family doctor / general physician, consultant or surgeon) prescribes tests - pathology, radiology, X-rays, MRIs etc. – the laboratory conducting those tests gives commissions. In South and Central Mumbai — 40%. In the suburbs north of Bandra — a whopping 60 per cent! He probably earns a lot more in this way than the consulting fees that you pay.

2) 30-40% for referring to consultants, specialists & surgeons. When your friendly GP refers you to a specialist or surgeon, he gets 30-40%.

3) 30-40% of total hospital charges. If the GP or consultant recommends hospitalization, he will receive kickback from the private nursing home as a percentage of all charges including ICU, bed, nursing care, surgery.

4) Sink tests. Some tests prescribed by doctors are not needed. They are there to inflate bills and commissions. The pathology lab understands what is unnecessary. These are called "sink tests"; blood, urine, stool samples collected will be thrown.

5) Admitting the patient to "keep him under observation". People go to cardiologists feeling unwell and anxious. Most of them aren’t really having a heart attack, and cardiologists and family doctors are well aware of this. They admit such safe patients, put them on a saline drip with mild sedation, and send them home after 3-4 days after charging them a fat amount for ICU, bed charges, visiting doctors fees.

6) ICU minus intensive care. Nursing homes all over the suburbs are run by doctor couples or as one-man-shows. In such places, nurses and ward boys are 10th class drop-outs in ill-fitting uniforms and bare feet. These "nurses" sit at the reception counter, give injections and saline drips, perform ECGs, apply dressings and change bandages, and assist in the operation theatre. At night, they even sit outside the Intensive Care Units; there is no resident doctor. In case of a crisis, the doctor — who usually lives in the same building – will turn up after 20 minutes, after this nurse calls him. Such ICUs admit safe patients to fill up beds. Genuine patients who require emergency care are sent elsewhere to hospitals having a Resident Medical Officer (RMO) round-the-clock.

7) Unnecessary caesarean surgeries and hysterectomies. Many surgical procedures are done to keep the cash register ringing.
Caesarean deliveries and hysterectomy (removal of uterus) are high on the list. While the woman with labour -pains is screaming and panicking, the obstetrician who gently suggests that caesarean is best seems like an angel sent by God! Menopausal women experience bodily changes that make them nervous and gullible. They can be frightened by words like " and "fibroids" that are in almost every normal woman’s radiology reports. When a gynaecologist gently suggests womb removal "as a precaution", most women and their husbands agree without a second’s thought.

8) Cosmetic surgery advertized through newspapers. Liposuction and plastic surgery are not minor procedures. Some are life-threateningly major. But advertisements make them appear as easy as facials and waxing. The Indian medical council has strict rules against such misrepresentation. But nobody is interested in taking action.

9) Indirect kickbacks from doctors to prestigious hospitals. To be on the panel of a prestigious hospital, there is give-and-take involved. The hospital expects the doctor to refer many patients for hospital admission. If he fails to send a certain number of patients, he is quietly dumped. And so he likes to admit patients even when there is no need.

10) "Emergency surgery" on dead body. If a surgeon hurriedly wheels your patient from the Intensive Care Unit to the operation theater, refuses to let you go inside and see him, and wants your signature on the consent form for "an emergency operation to save his life", it is likely that your patient is already dead. The "emergency operation" is for inflating the bill; if you agree for it, the surgeon will come out 15 minutes later and report that your patient died on the operation table. And then, when you take delivery of the dead body, you will pay OT charges, anesthesiologist’s charges, blah-blah-

Doctors are humans too. You can’t trust them blindly. Please understand the difference.

Young surgeons and old ones. The young ones who are setting up nursing home etc. have heavy loans to settle. To pay back the loan, they have to perform as many operations as possible. Also, to build a reputation, they have to perform a large number of operations and develop their skills. So, at first, every case seems fit for cutting. But with age, experience and prosperity, many surgeons lose their taste for cutting, and stop recommending operations.

Physicians and surgeons. To a man with a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. Surgeons like to solve medical problems by cutting, just as physicians first seek solutions with drugs. So, if you take your medical problem to a surgeon first, the chances are that you will unnecessarily end up on the operation table. Instead, please go to an ordinary GP first

The time we spend in school is the most precious phase of our life and we should make the most of it. Every student should try his best to perform well during his academic life as the years spent in school are the most crucial in building your entire personality.

Following some simple tips can help you out in becoming a good student and these good practices will also help you throughout your life.

Maintain good health

Health is wealth so give it the foremost priority. Watch what you eat — avoid junk food, eat more vegetables and fruits, and drink plenty of water. Never skip breakfast and take something with you for lunch at school. Make some light exercises an essential part of your daily routine and cut down the time you spend on watching TV and playing computer games.

Keep an eye on your sleeping habit too. Sound sleep gives you a refreshing feeling the whole day, so sleep for about eight hours per day. Go to bed early and try to wake up early as well — if you have the habit of getting up late, you would feel lethargic the entire day.

Get organised

When you have a healthy body, your mind also works well. So now think about your study routine. Make a timetable and allocate reasonable time to each and every subject. Give more time to difficult subjects but do not completely ignore the easier ones.

Don’t wait for the night before the exams to study. Make it a habit to revise each day all that you are taught in your class that day. This way your learning will be a continuous process and you will just have to revise most of the things before the exams.

Don’t forget to enjoy

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Don’t let it happen to you! Always take some time out to relax. When you take a break from your study routine, indulge in some outdoor sport or you can also utilise your free time in helping out your mom or dad in their chores. Take a short nap if you feel like it or watch some entertaining programme on TV, but don’t overdo it.

Pay attention in class

Pay attention to what is being taught in the classroom. Note down important points in your notebook and do revise the lesson when home.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions in the class. Always be the first to raise hand and ask your teacher anything you feel you didn’t get during the lecture. If there is any student in your class who is good at some particular subject, don’t be shy in going to them for some help.

Making these practices, a routine of your life will not only help you get good grades but also make it easier for you to manage your life after school.

Killer Web Video Techniques II:
Audience Engagement
By Jerry Bader (c) 2011

Follow SiteProNews on:

We are inundated with advertising messages from the time we wake to the time we go to bed. Some of these messages are welcomed and some are a source of irritation. The difference between noise and communication boils down to relevance, and relevance is a function of how advertisers deliver three basic ingredients: substance, style, and technique.

Our brains have a built-in spam filter that can filter out much of the irrelevant and absorb the significant. In a room full of people all talking and laughing at once like at a party, your brain is able to recognize your name being spoken while everything else is a cacophonous blur. The goal of advertising is to make your message significant like the sound of your name, significant enough to demand your attention. So, is your marketing communication significant, or is it merely noise?

Everyóne in our organization is constantly learning new things. Each of us receive dozens of newsletters on all kinds of subjects, some of which are directly related to what we do, and some help us better understand the world we live in and the needs of our clients. And some of it is just intended to make us think.

Substance Without The Pitch

I recently got an email with a video from the Editor of AE Tuts Plus, Adam Everett Miller. AE Tuts Plus produces a website that specializes in After Effects motion graphics. After Effects is a high-end software program used to create all those fancy motions graphics we all love. Most of the information is pretty sophisticated and aimed at a specialized design community but in this case they sent out a video that wasn’t about how to do something but rather why something was the way it was.

Top 10 Exposure for Your Ads on 225+ Search Engines

       • No Bidding – No PPC – No Click Fraud
• Flat Fee Rates Starting at $4 per Month or Less
• Over 150 Million Searches per Month
• Six Bonus Giveaways with Your Order

Place Your Order or Find Out More at ExactSeek.com

Would the video make anyone a better designer – no. Would the video provide its viewers with a technique they could sell their clients – no. The video merely explains to people why Hex Color Values are what they are. There is no sales pitch other than a subliminal message that AE Tuts knows what it’s talking about, is in business to help its audience, and can be trusted to deliver on its promise without always feeling the need to sell something.

Video: Aetuts Plus Hex Value Quick Tip

Style Enhances Identity

From a branding and marketing point-of-view this video establishes an approachable, friendly style that helps define the AE Tuts brand, and indirectly makes their audience wiser and more informed. It’s interesting, memorable, and entertaining; and it makes viewers a more knowledgeable audience.

The style portrayed is not a random accident. The video uses a number of techniques intended to deliver a carefully thought-out image designed to gain audience acceptance as the industry knowledge leader.

A Casual Non-Pedantic Approach

The Web has changed many things not the least of which is how people expect to be taught. Your standard old fashion no nonsense schoolteacher approach is just so pre-Web and quite frankly turns people off. If you really want to educate an audience you better be approachable and entertaining in your delivery, and that is exactly what Adam has managed to do.

Everything from the casual monochromatic attire to the geek-chic glasses and beard are designed to deliver the impression that Adam is just like his audience: just one of the guys with some cool stuff to tell you. The presentation focuses attention on Adam and the accompanying mnemonics by placing everything within a plain white environment, slightly enhanced by a gradient spot to frame Adam, who is placed slightly off center nicely qualifying as a good example of the Rule of Thirds that provides space for the onscreen text and graphics.

The language Adam uses is down-to-earth, delivered in a cadence and rhythm that is just fast enough so the audience doesn’t get bored but slow enough so the information can be absorbed.

Each point is highlighted and emphasized with some onscreen graphic, text, or sound effect. Some of the points are accompanied by a humorous visual and verbal aside that maintains the presentations rhythm while at the same time allowing a small mental respite so the brain can absorb one idea and get ready for the next. And it’s all packaged with a Sesame Street style music score that goes unnoticed but is critical to the overall impression of learning can be enjoyable and doesn’t have to be tedious work.

The Last Word

It takes a lot of knowledge and know-how to make something look easy and this video does a damn good job doing it. Every detail from concept to content was carefully thought-out and the execution was spot-on.

Educational and how-to videos are very popular – there is no great revelation in that, but much of what is on the Web is quite frankly terrible, and that applies to both amateur and professional efforts. In order to benefit from your audience’s desire to learn, enhance your brand, and build confidence and trust in the marketplace with educational Web videos, you first must understand how people process information, and how to present material so that it is both enjoyed and retained.

Although I am not as such a fan of Qaddafi nor do I know him well but all I know is that he has many things in Pakistan which are called by his name. He must have given such great speech and his agenda must have been so great that people started naming their sons "Qadafi" and governments started giving names to the important land marks and whole areas of the cities in Pakistan under his name

Originally called the Lahore Stadium when it opened in 1959, the cricket ground was renamed Gaddafi Stadium in 1974 in honour of the Libyan leader after his “rousing speech” at an Organisation of the Islamic Conference meeting in favour of Pakistan’s right to have a nuclear weapons programme. It houses the Pakistan Cricket Board, was the venue of the 1996 World Cup final, and saw the Sri Lankan cricket team come under terrorist attack in the golden jubilee year of the stadium, after which no international cricket team has toured the country.

Around the world, Gaddafi who until recently seemed to be untouchable by both his people and other peoples, especially in the African continent, is best remembered for his preferences that made him unique among African leaders.

The 68-year-old Libyan leader is best remembered for his longing for sexy young female bodyguards with some of them reportedly virgins, long expensive motorcades and pitching his tent in African capitals.

A foreign correspondent based in Dar es Salaam remarked recently that Gaddafi enjoys strong support among some Muslim clerics in Tanzania because of his generous support to mosques.

The journalist added that Tanzania’s reluctance to condemn Gaddafi stems from the country’s huge debt with Libya.
On July 20, 2005 the Libyan government agreed to cancel interest and penalty interest on a debt it owes Tanzania to the tune of $101,687,077.50.

The man Gaddafi could be the centre of volumes of pages of best selling memoirs describing his excessive behaviours such as his love for sexy young female bodyguards and long motorcades with expensive cars such as Mercedes Benz and Ferrari.

For example, when the Libyan leader visited Italy recently he chose to cruise the streets of the capital Rome with a motorcade of no less than 36 cars.

During a visit to South Africa in 2002, Gaddafi reportedly rolled out in a motorcade of 60 armored vehicles and two 46-seater buses, all packed with 400 bodyguards.

Wherever the convoy traveled, local mobile networks broke down, thanks to a jamming device which disrupted all electronic and radio signals in the surrounding areas.

It is an open secret Gaddafi does not spare any expense when it comes to his own security. He is best known for his 40 extremely loyal female guards that follow him everywhere.

And it seems he is still recruiting, since when he was in Rome, he reportedly converted three Italian women to Islam.
Gaddafi’s personal bodyguard, the Amazonian guard, is composed of women who are martial arts experts and highly-trained in the use of weapons.

The Amazonian Guard sparked an international incident in 2006 when Gaddafi landed in Nigeria with over two hundred armed guards for a summit.

Nigerian security officials refused to allow the Libyans entry based on their armaments, and Gaddafi angrily resolved to set off on foot 40 km to Nigeria’s capital from the airport. Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo personally intervened, and a compromise was sought.

The army colonel is also the brainchild of the concept car he reportedly helped design, called the Libyan Rocket.
Revealed in 2009, the $2.5 million prototype was powered by a 230 horsepower V6 and was set to be produced in Tripoli for the benefit of the masses, since it was described as the “safest car produced anywhere”.

However, the car did not get into mass production, but at the time, the embattled Libyan ruler explained hecreated the car for the safety of his people, because too many of them died on the roads. Sadly, death reports in Libya have nothing to do with car accidents.

Libya’s wealth has allowed Col Gaddafi to foster close ties with African leaders. He had no qualms about pitching his tent in African capitals and could drive his motorcade across several African borders to attend a conference or just to dazzle them with oil money as an array of designer shaded curvaceous bodyguards attended to his needs.

From the African National Congress (ANC) in South Africa to Namibia’s freedom fighters, plus every rebel without a cause like Sierra Leone’s Foday Sankoh to Liberia’s Charles Taylor, Uganda’s late Iddi Amin and even that country’s present leader Yoweri Museveni – they have all supped at his revolutionary table or taken his money and weapons.
Only recently Gaddafi was the chairman of the African Union (AU), and has almost single-handedly funded its existence for decades, pushing for a United Africa over which he would preside.

At 27 years of age, Gaddafi, with a taste for safari suits and sunglasses, then sought to become the new “Che Guevara of the age”.

Gaddafi has been the leader of Libya since a coup in 1969. His regime has been associated with numerous acts of state-sponsored terrorism in the 1970s, 80s and early 90s.

From 1972, when Gaddafi relinquished the title of prime minister, he has been accorded the honorific “Brotherly Leader and Guide of the First of September Great Revolution of the Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya” (or more concisely as “Brother Leader and Guide of the Revolution”) in government statements and the official press.
With the death of Omar Bongo of Gabon on June 8, 2009, he became the longest serving of all current non-royal national leaders and he is one of the longest serving rulers in history.
